Boogie Bot is an app for all ages. Kids 6+, who can read, are the best candidates. If you love robots and dancing, you will love programming Boogie Bot to dance.
The premium paid version has more dance music, lots of cool dance moves, video recording capability and of course lots of challenging levels. As you progress through the levels you learn to create Bot’s dance moves using new programming constructs like loops, conditional logic, functions, messaging and more. The paid version also lets you create your own dances.
There are 5 different categories, with varying level of difficulty. Each category introduces a different programming concept like algorithmic thinking, sequencing, looping, procedural thinking, conditional flow, sequential and parallel processing and much more. Each category has 15 levels. In addition to this kids can create their own dances in My List.
Boogie Bot lets you build a robot, program it and then transform the room to a trendy party zone to set the stage for Bot’s performance.
Build it – Build the robot from the body part as per the blue print.
Program it – Arrange blockly code blocks to make dance moves. Use programming construct to create sequence of dance steps and test it out in the programming screen.
Enjoy it – Transform the room to a dance floor by tapping the bed and show off your code creation. Sit back, relax and enjoy the show or you can even join in the dance.
Boogie Bot lets you create your own dance. Tap the “My List” button on the top panel of the programming screen. A blank work area appears with only “When Start” block. Add dance action blocks to create your own dance. Enhance your Bot’s performance with special effects, which you can buy with the coins you earn.
As you progress through the levels in Boogie Bot you will earn coins which are virtual money you can shop with. All you have to do is head over to “Store”.
You can use the coins to buy all sorts of cool stuff, like new wall paint, lava lamp, fish bowl, posters and much much more. You can even change the look of the dance floor with new floor lighting, neon signs and you can even add awesome visual effects to your dances. Don’t like the color of your robot – go ahead and get a new one.
Every level you complete lets you earn some coins. If you run out of coins and want to buy some cool stuff, you can buy extra coins with parental permission.
Junior Coder is suitable for anyone who loves solving problems. The entire game is set up as a series of puzzles with increasing levels of complexity. We have seen kids 7+, who can read, are best candidates. Younger kids can have fun solving the puzzles while older kids can really challenge themselves by creating efficient instructions.
Absolutely. The games are designed so kids can play without any assistance. However there is a help screen for every game. You can find it on the top left hand corner. Even if you don’t need help, we encourage you to take a look at the help screen as they provide cool tips and information.
There are 7 different games, each with 5 levels of prebuilt challenges. In addition to this kids can create their own challenges. They can keep a set of 5 challenges at a time. They can delete and create any of those challenges.
You arrange visual code blocks to make something happen in each game. Each game has a work panel with all available code blocks. You will arrange the correct set of blocks to give specific instructions. You will need to use the blocks efficiently to earn extra credit.
For every game you can create your own challenges just like the prebuilt levels. The easy drag and drop interface lets you create and save the challenges for later. This is perfect for playing in pairs where someone can challenge their friend or family member to a puzzle.
All blocks in the work panel needs to be arranged in sequence (attached to the previous block) before you can hit the start button. If any of the blocks are not attached, the game will prompt you to remove or attach those blocks. Unattached blocks can easily be identified by a warning sign on the top left hand corner.
You earn one star for completing the task. But if there is another way to solve the problem, with lesser number of blocks then you can earn double stars for solving it more efficiently.
On the top right hand corner of the screen you can click on the last button to see the award chart. For every game you finish, you earn a cool medal. For every computer concept learned, you earn a badge. When you finish all levels you earn “Junior Coder” or “Junior Coder Pro” badge.
If you complete all levels in all games, with at least one star for each level, you will get the “Junior Coder” badge.
If you complete all levels in all games, with double star for each level, you will earn the “Junior Coder Pro” badge.
